Quick answer
No commercial bank in Nepal publishes its current staff salary scale, so any exact “bank salary” table should be treated with caution. The one full scale ever reported, from a commercial bank in 2019, ran from Rs 23,000 a month for a trainee assistant to Rs 70,000 for an officer and Rs 147,000 for a manager. CEO pay is public: Rs 23 million to Rs 85 million a year at the largest banks.
Banking is one of the best-paid sectors in Nepal for graduates, and one of the least transparent about pay. Vacancy notices state the level and not the salary. This page sets out what is on the public record — the grade ladder, the one full scale that was reported, what the sector spends on staff, and what bank CEOs earn — and says where the record stops.

Bank job levels in Nepal, from assistant to CEO
Commercial banks use broadly the same ladder, with small differences in titles. Pay is attached to the level, and a level usually has several steps.
| Level | Typical entry requirement |
|---|---|
| Trainee assistant | +2 or bachelor’s running; often a fixed-term contract |
| Junior assistant / assistant | Bachelor’s degree; written test and interview |
| Senior assistant / supervisor | Promotion, or bachelor’s with experience |
| Junior officer / officer / management trainee | Master’s degree or bachelor’s with experience; competitive selection |
| Senior officer / assistant manager | Promotion with several years’ service |
| Manager / senior manager / chief manager | Branch or department head |
| Deputy general manager and above | Senior management |
| Chief executive officer | Appointed by the board, with Nepal Rastra Bank’s approval |
Bank staff salary by level: the one published scale
The only complete staff scale we found in a news source is Machhapuchchhre Bank’s, reported by Clickmandu in November 2019. It is seven years old and pay has risen since, so read it for the shape of the ladder — how much each step adds — and not as today’s figure.

Why there is no current bank salary table here
- Recent recruitment notices, including Rastriya Banijya Bank’s notice of Ashadh 2083 for 142 posts, state the level and not the salary.
- Nepal Rastra Bank does not publish its own staff scale. The tables circulated online cite no source and disagree with each other.
- The figures on salary websites are anonymous self-reports, not a bank’s scale.
- What can be said: every bank must pay at least the legal minimum salary, and entry-level pay at commercial banks is well above it.
What banks spend on their staff
- Twenty commercial banks spent more than Rs 66 billion on about 45,000 employees in fiscal year 2080/81 (Banking Samachar, August 2024).
- Fifty-two banks and financial institutions spent Rs 39.89 billion on staff in the first seven months of 2082/83, up 6.28% on the year before, according to Nepal Rastra Bank data reported by Himal Press. Rastriya Banijya Bank spent Rs 2.89 billion, Nabil Rs 2.42 billion and Global IME Rs 2.38 billion.
- Banks must spend at least 3% of the previous year’s staff expense on training, a Nepal Rastra Bank requirement reported by Republica in 2016.

What else comes with a bank job
- Provident fund and gratuity on the basic salary, as the Labour Act requires.
- Dashain allowance of at least one month’s basic salary, and at many banks more.
- Staff loans — home, vehicle and personal — at rates below what customers pay. For many bankers this is worth more than the salary difference between two banks.
- Bonus from the bank’s profit under the Bonus Act, where there is a distributable profit.
- Medical and life insurance, leave encashment, and uniform or dress allowance.
Getting the bank job
Banks shortlist from the CV first, so it has to show the degree, the percentage or GPA, computer skills and any internship in a bank. The bank and finance CV example is written to that format. Current openings, read from employers’ own careers pages, are on the jobs board.
