How to get a job in Dubai from Nepal

Last updated 5 min read 7 sections

Quick answer

There are two legal ways to get a job in Dubai from Nepal: through a recruiting agency licensed by the Department of Foreign Employment, against an approved demand from a UAE employer; or individually, with an employment visa and contract you obtained yourself. Either way you need a labour permit (श्रम स्वीकृति) before you fly, and you should never travel on a visit visa to look for work.

The UAE is one of the largest destinations for Nepali workers, and Dubai is where most people picture themselves. The jobs are real — hotels, restaurants, security, retail, delivery, construction, cleaning, drivers. So are the frauds. The difference between the two is almost always whether the process below was followed.

The two legal routes

RouteHow it worksWho it suits
Through a licensed recruiting agencyA UAE employer sends a demand letter; it is approved by Nepal’s authorities; the agency advertises, interviews and processes selected workers. Most workers, and anyone going for the first time.
IndividualYou get an offer and an employment visa directly from a UAE employer — often through a relative already working there — and apply for an individual labour permit.People with a genuine direct offer and someone they trust in the UAE.

Step by step through an agency

  1. 1Check the agency is licensed with the Department of Foreign Employment, and that the demand it is advertising has been approved. Both can be confirmed with the Department.
  2. 2Apply with your passport, CV, photos and experience and training certificates.
  3. 3Attend the interview — often by the employer’s representative in Kathmandu, sometimes with a trade test.
  4. 4Read the offer and the contract before you agree: position, salary, working hours, overtime, accommodation, food, the contract period and leave.
  5. 5Medical examination at an approved centre.
  6. 6Visa processing by the employer, through the agency.
  7. 7Pre-departure orientation, insurance and the welfare and social security contributions.
  8. 8Labour permit — the agency obtains it; check it yourself before you travel. See the labour permit guide.
  9. 9Fly with your passport, visa, contract, labour permit and insurance papers, and leave copies with your family.

What it should cost

Nepal’s “free visa, free ticket” policy for the Gulf states and Malaysia makes the employer responsible for the visa and the air ticket, and limits what a recruiting agency may charge the worker as a service fee. Pay only what the rules allow, pay it at the agency’s office, and take an official receipt for every rupee. An agency that will not give a receipt is telling you something.

You will still have your own costs: the passport, the medical examination, the orientation, insurance and the fund contributions. Ask for the full list in writing before you commit.

Jobs Nepalis commonly get in Dubai

  • Hospitality — waiter, barista, housekeeping, kitchen helper, cook.
  • Security — security guards, with height, fitness and English requirements.
  • Retail and sales — sales staff, cashiers, merchandisers.
  • Drivers and delivery — a UAE licence is needed, and is usually obtained after arrival.
  • Cleaning and facility services.
  • Construction and technical trades — electricians, plumbers, masons, welders, AC technicians.
  • Skilled and professional roles — nurses, accountants, IT — which need recognised qualifications and often licensing.

Your CV and the interview

Gulf employers expect a one-page CV with a photo and your passport details, and the interview is short and in English. The CV format for Dubai, Qatar and Saudi jobs shows the layout, and these guides cover the questions: waiter, barista and housekeeping, security guard, and a self introduction in English.

Read the contract for these

If what you are told in Kathmandu differs from the paper, the paper is what counts. Do not sign a second, different contract on arrival.

  • The job title and the employer’s name — the same as on your visa and labour permit.
  • Basic salary and allowances, in dirhams, and the pay date.
  • Working hours, the weekly day off and how overtime is paid.
  • Accommodation, food and transport — provided, or an allowance.
  • Contract length, annual leave and the return ticket.
  • Medical insurance.

How fraud usually happens

Check the agency, check the demand, check the permit, and keep every receipt. If something goes wrong abroad, contact the Embassy of Nepal in the UAE.

  • A visit visa “to convert later”. You have no labour permit, no protection, and often no job.
  • An unlicensed agent or a sub-agent who takes cash in a village and disappears.
  • A different job on arrival — lower pay, different work — because the contract was never shown.
  • Fake offer letters sent by email or messaging app asking for a “visa fee”.
  • Travelling through another country to avoid Nepal’s process.

Common questions

How can I get a job in Dubai from Nepal?

Apply through a recruiting agency licensed by Nepal’s Department of Foreign Employment against an approved demand, pass the interview and medical, and travel with an employment visa, a signed contract and a labour permit. Or, with a direct offer and visa from a UAE employer, apply for an individual labour permit yourself.

Can I go to Dubai on a visit visa and find a job?

It is not the legal route from Nepal for employment and it leaves you without a labour permit, insurance or the protection of the foreign employment system. Many cases of stranded workers begin this way.

How much does it cost to go to Dubai for work from Nepal?

Under Nepal’s free visa, free ticket policy the employer bears the visa and ticket, and the agency’s service fee is limited by the government. You also pay for your medical, orientation, insurance and fund contributions. Confirm the current permitted amounts with the Department of Foreign Employment and take receipts.

What documents do I need for a Dubai job?

A valid passport, a CV with photo, passport-size photos, academic and training certificates, experience letters, the medical report, the employment visa, the contract, and the labour permit before departure.

Which jobs are available in Dubai for Nepalis?

Mostly hospitality, security, retail, cleaning, delivery and driving, and construction and technical trades, along with professional roles for those with recognised qualifications.
