Europass CV format — a full example you can edit

The EU's CV format, asked for by name for study and work in Europe — labels on the left, CEFR language levels, date of birth and nationality.

Open this in the builder and edit it

Free. No account. Downloads as PDF with no watermark.

A Europass CV is the European Union's standard CV format: the section name or the dates in a narrow column on the left, the details on the right, the same order for everyone. Universities, embassies and the agencies recruiting for Croatia, Romania, Portugal, Poland and Malta ask for it by name because it lets them compare applicants line by line. The Europass CV example above is filled in for a Nepali applicant, and it works as a Europass CV template: open it in the builder, change the details to yours and download your Europass CV as a PDF or a Word file, free.

What to notice in this one

  • Dates sit in the left column and the newest job comes first. That is the order every Europass CV follows, and what a European employer or visa officer expects to find.
  • Languages are given as CEFR levels, A1 to C2, not “good” or “fluent”. Europe reads those levels, so assess yourself honestly — B1 that is true beats C1 that is not.
  • Date of birth, nationality and gender appear under the name because this format carries them. Leave any of them blank if the employer tells you not to send it.

The name, employers and numbers above are invented. Replace every one of them — a CV that still says Bishal Rai is worse than no CV at all.

Europass CV format

The sections, in the order an employer reads them.

  1. Personal information — Name as in your passport, phone with +977, an email you check, and your address. Date of birth, nationality, gender and a photo are optional in Europass — add them when the agency or the advertisement asks.
  2. Profile or position applied for — Two or three lines: the job you are applying for, your years of experience, and whether your passport is ready.
  3. Work experience — Newest first. Dates in the left column, then the job title, the employer with its city and country, and three to five lines of what you did, with numbers.
  4. Education and training — Newest first: the qualification, the institution, the city and country, the years. Trainings and certificates belong here too.
  5. Languages — Mother tongue first, then every other language with a CEFR level from A1 to C2. Name a certificate — IELTS, a German A1 — beside the level if you hold one.
  6. Skills — Job-related skills, then digital skills and a driving licence category if you hold one. Plain and checkable.
  7. Additional information — Passport validity, when you can join, and references if they are asked for.

Europass CV objective

Two to adapt — change the numbers and names to yours. A career objective, or summary, is the two or three lines under your name.

Hotel management graduate with a three-month kitchen placement and a food safety certificate, looking for a first position in a hotel or restaurant kitchen in Europe. English at B1, passport ready, and able to join on short notice.

Skills to put on a Europass CV

  • The skills of the job itself, named the way the advertisement names them
  • English with its CEFR level, and any European language you are learning
  • Safety and hygiene training relevant to the work — HACCP, first aid, site safety
  • Digital skills: email, messaging apps, MS Office, any system used at work
  • Driving licence, with the category copied from your licence card
  • Experience in another country, if you have it — say which country

Europass CV with no work experience

With no job yet, a Europass CV still has every section — it only changes which one carries the weight. Put education and training first after your personal information, and describe each course by what you learned to do. List a placement, an internship or unpaid work under work experience with real dates. Give honest CEFR levels for your languages, because a first-time applicant is judged on those more than anyone. One page is enough.

Common questions

What is a Europass CV?

Europass is the European Union's standard CV format, run by the European Commission. It sets out personal information, work experience, education and training, languages with CEFR levels, and skills in the same order for every applicant, with the section names and dates in a column on the left.

How do I make a Europass CV online for free?

Use this page as a free Europass CV maker: open the Europass CV sample in the builder, replace the details with your own and download it as a PDF or Word file; there is no charge and no sign-up. The European Union also has its own free editor on europass.europa.eu, which is the one to use when an agency insists on the official Europass file.

Is this the official Europass CV?

No. It follows the Europass layout and order, and it does not carry the Europass logo, which belongs to the European Union. Most employers and agencies accept a CV in the Europass format; if yours asks for one made on the official Europass website, make it there.

Is a Europass CV required for jobs in Europe?

It is not a legal requirement. Many recruitment agencies and some employers and universities ask for it, and when they do they usually mean exactly this layout. When an advertisement only says CV, a clear two-page CV in the same order is generally accepted.

What language level do I write in a Europass CV?

Use the CEFR scale: A1 and A2 for basic, B1 and B2 for independent, C1 and C2 for proficient. Give the level you could prove on a phone call, and name any certificate you hold beside it.

Can I download the Europass CV format as a PDF or Word file for free?

Yes. The Europass CV template on this page downloads as a PDF or as a Word (.docx) file, free and without a watermark, once you have put your own details in.

Examples for other fields

Fresher — no work experience

Just finished studying, no job yet. The hardest CV to start, and the most common.

Biodata (बायोडाटा)

The बायोडाटा a local-level, government or cooperative office asks for — personal particulars first, written in Nepali.

IT and software

Developer, QA, support or sysadmin. The one field where a link is worth more than a paragraph.

Accountant

Accounts, audit and tax. A Nepali employer checks the software and the filing first.

Teacher

School and college teaching. The licence and the levels taught come before anything else.

Staff nurse

Hospital and clinic nursing. The council registration is checked before anything else.

Bank and finance

Bank, finance company and co-operative roles. Compliance counts more than sales figures.

Health assistant (HA)

Health post and PHC work. Council registration is the first thing checked, so it goes near the top.

Pharmacist

Retail or hospital pharmacy. Council registration and the drugs you have actually handled are what get read.

Medical lab technician

Pathology and diagnostic lab work. The tests you can run unsupervised are the whole CV.

Driver

Licence category, years without an accident, and the routes you know. Everything else is secondary.

Security guard

Service background, shift discipline and what you actually guarded. Written for agencies and for export employment.

Electrician

Trade level, the work you have wired, and the licence. Written for site work at home and abroad.

Hotel and hospitality

Front office, F&B or housekeeping. Star rating, cover counts and languages are what a hotel reads.

Office assistant

Computer operator and office assistant work — the most common office job in Nepal. Typing speed and Nepali keyboard are checked before anything else.

Receptionist

Front desk at a clinic, office or school. Manner, phone volume and calendar handling are the job.

Sales and distribution

Counter sales, route sales or distribution. Targets and territory are the whole CV.

NGO and INGO

INGO, NGO and project work. Donors, districts covered and beneficiary numbers are what a recruiter scans for.

Civil engineer

Site or design. NEC registration comes first, then the buildings you have actually stood on.

Marketing officer

Digital and on-ground. In Nepal that means Facebook first, and the numbers to prove it worked.

Doctor / medical officer

MBBS and medical officer roles. NMC registration first, then the departments and patient loads you have carried.

Dentist

BDS and clinic practice. Registration, the procedures you do unsupervised, and a patient count per day.

Physiotherapist

Hospital, rehab or sports physio. NHPC registration, caseload and the conditions you treat.

Medical representative

Pharma field sales. Doctors covered, pharmacies in the territory, and target achieved — the three numbers that matter.

Caregiver

Elderly and patient care, at home or abroad. Language level, care skills and the hours you have worked.

Customer service

Call centre, telecom and ISP support. Call volume, resolution and satisfaction scores are the whole job.

HR officer

Recruitment, payroll and labour compliance. Nepal's Labour Act and SSF are what separate an HR CV here from one copied from abroad.

Microfinance field officer

Centre meetings, loan disbursement and collection. Portfolio size and repayment rate are what a microfinance CV is judged on.

Graphic designer

Print, social and brand work. The portfolio link does the persuading; the CV says what you made and for whom.

Agriculture

Agriculture graduates and technicians. Field extension, the crops you know, and the programmes you have worked on.

Veterinary officer

Livestock and animal health. Council registration, the species you treat, and field programmes.

Welder / fabricator

Structural and pipe welding. Processes, positions and a skill-test level — what Gulf and local contractors test you on.

Auto mechanic

Two-wheeler, car or heavy vehicle repair. The vehicles you fix and the systems you diagnose.

Chef / cook

Hotel, restaurant and overseas kitchens. Station, cuisines and covers — the three things a head chef asks.

Housekeeping

Room attendant to housekeeping supervisor. Rooms per shift, standards and chemicals — for hotels here and abroad.

Trekking and tour guide

Licensed trekking and cultural guiding. Routes, altitude experience and the languages your groups speak.

Cabin crew

Air hostess and flight attendant. Safety training, languages and service — what an airline assessment day tests.

Journalist

Print, online and broadcast reporting. Beat, outlet and bylines — and links to the stories.

Lawyer / advocate

Litigation and advisory practice. Bar licence, courts appeared in, and the areas of law you actually practise.
