NEB GPA calculator for Class 11 and Class 12

NEB works out a Class 11 or Class 12 GPA from every theory and internal grade on the grade sheet: each grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, the results are added, and the total is divided by the credit hours, usually 27. Nepali carries 3 credit hours, English 4 and every other subject 5. A sample Science sheet below comes to 3.41.

Class 11 and Class 12 use the same credit hours. Changing the stream resets the subjects.

Type the grade (A+, B) or the marks you got in each part. Leave a subject blank to skip it.

SubjectCreditTheoryInternal

theory 2.25 + internal 0.75 credit ·

theory 3 + internal 1 credit ·

theory 3.75 + internal 1.25 credit ·

theory 3.75 + internal 1.25 credit ·

theory 3.75 + internal 1.25 credit ·

theory 3.75 + internal 1.25 credit ·

Enter a theory and an internal grade for at least one subject.

Choose your stream and the subjects appear with their credit hours, the way the NEB grade sheet prints them: one row for theory, one for internal or practical. Type the grade or the marks for each and the GPA is worked out as NEB does it. Your school may offer a different optional subject, so every row can be changed.

Credit hours for Class 11 and 12 subjects

A subject's credit hours are divided between theory and internal in the ratio of their marks. Most subjects are 75 marks theory and 25 internal; practical-heavy subjects such as Computer Science and Hotel Management are 50 and 50. Class 11 and Class 12 use the same figures.

  • Nepali — 3 credit hours: theory 2.25, internal 0.75 (75/25 marks)
  • English — 4 credit hours: theory 3, internal 1 (75/25 marks)
  • Mathematics — 5 credit hours: theory 3.75, internal 1.25 (75/25 marks)
  • Physics — 5 credit hours: theory 3.75, internal 1.25 (75/25 marks)
  • Chemistry — 5 credit hours: theory 3.75, internal 1.25 (75/25 marks)
  • Biology — 5 credit hours: theory 3.75, internal 1.25 (75/25 marks)
  • Computer Science — 5 credit hours: theory 2.5, internal 2.5 (50/50 marks)
  • Social Studies and Life Skill Education — 5 credit hours: theory 3.75, internal 1.25 (75/25 marks)
  • Accounting — 5 credit hours: theory 3.75, internal 1.25 (75/25 marks)
  • Economics — 5 credit hours: theory 3.75, internal 1.25 (75/25 marks)
  • Business Studies — 5 credit hours: theory 3.75, internal 1.25 (75/25 marks)
  • Hotel Management — 5 credit hours: theory 2.5, internal 2.5 (50/50 marks)

How NEB calculates the GPA

GPA = Σ(credit hours × grade point) ÷ Σ credit hours, counted over every theory row and every internal row. A 5-credit subject therefore enters twice: 3.75 credit hours at the theory grade and 1.25 at the internal grade.

A sample Science grade sheet, 27 credit hours in all, comes to a GPA of 3.41:

  • Nepali: theory B+, internal A — subject average 3.30
  • English: theory A, internal A+ — subject average 3.70
  • Mathematics: theory B+, internal A+ — subject average 3.40
  • Physics: theory B, internal A — subject average 3.00
  • Chemistry: theory B+, internal A+ — subject average 3.40
  • Biology: theory A, internal A+ — subject average 3.70

NEB grading system for 75 marks, 50 marks and 25 marks

The grade is set by the percentage, so the marks needed depend on the paper's full marks. For a 75-mark theory paper:

  • 67.5 and above — A+ — 4.0
  • 60 and above — A — 3.6
  • 52.5 and above — B+ — 3.2
  • 45 and above — B — 2.8
  • 37.5 and above — C+ — 2.4
  • 30 and above — C — 2.0
  • 26.25 and above — D — 1.6

Grades for 50-mark and 25-mark papers

A 50-mark theory paper: 45 for A+, 40 for A, 35 for B+, 30 for B, 25 for C+, 20 for C, 17.5 for D.

A 25-mark internal assessment: 22.5 for A+, 20 for A, 17.5 for B+, 15 for B, 12.5 for C+, 10 for C.

A subject is graded only if you reach 35% in the theory paper and 40% in the internal assessment. Below either, the subject is NG (not graded) and no GPA is printed until it is cleared in the grade improvement exam.

Science, Management, Humanities and Education

The formula and the credit hours are the same in every stream. What changes is the subject list. Science students usually take Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Computer Science; Management students take Accounting, Economics and Business Studies with a fourth subject such as Business Mathematics, Marketing or Hotel Management; Humanities and Education students choose from Sociology, Rural Development, Education and Development, Population Studies and others.

Common questions

How is NEB GPA calculated in Class 12?

Each theory and internal grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, the results are added, and the total is divided by the total credit hours, usually 27 for six subjects.

How many credit hours does each subject have in Class 11 and 12?

Nepali has 3, English has 4 and every other subject has 5. For a 5-credit subject with 75 theory marks and 25 internal marks, theory carries 3.75 credit hours and internal 1.25.

What is the pass mark in NEB theory?

35% of the theory paper, which is 26.25 out of 75. Internal assessment needs 40%, which is 10 out of 25.

What marks are needed for A+ in a 75-mark paper?

67.5 or more out of 75, which is 90%.

Is the Class 11 GPA added to the Class 12 GPA?

No. NEB prints a separate grade sheet and GPA for each class.

Why is my GPA different from my grade sheet?

Usually a credit hour or a 50/50 subject entered as 75/25. Set each row to match the credit hours printed on your own sheet.
