BSc Nursing entrance exam in Nepal 2083: syllabus, marks and seats

Last updated 7 min read 7 sections

Quick answer

BSc Nursing in Nepal is entered through MEC's common entrance exam (CEE), on the same paper as MBBS: 200 questions in 3 hours — Zoology 40, Botany 40, Chemistry 50, Physics 50 and Mental Agility 20 — with −0.25 for a wrong answer. In MECEE-BL 2025 the pass mark was 39.75, and rank 2,430, about the number of seats, needed about 60.75.

There is no separate nursing entrance any more: the Medical Education Commission sets one paper for MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BSc Midwifery, BASLP and Perfusion Technology, and each program ranks its own candidates. What differs for nursing is the day, the seats and the score that gets you one.

The BSc Nursing entrance exam is the CEE

  • The 2083 date: 16 Kartik 2083 (2 November 2026), 11:00 to 2:00, inside the Kathmandu Valley, for BSc Nursing, BSc Midwifery, BASLP and B Perfusion Technology — as Edusanjal reports MEC's notice of 2083/05/22.
  • The paper: MEC's paper I — Zoology 40, Botany 40, Chemistry 50, Physics 50, Mental Agility Test 20 — 200 single-best-answer questions with four options.
  • The marking: +1 right, −0.25 wrong, nothing for a blank. You must reach the 50th percentile of nursing candidates to be on the merit list.
  • On paper: a question booklet and an OMR answer sheet, filled with the black gel pen given at the centre.

Who can apply for BSc Nursing

Working out the GPA from a Class 12 grade sheet: the NEB GPA calculator.

  • Passed +2 Science or its equivalent (A-level included) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with 50% aggregate or a GPA of 2.4.
  • Or a Proficiency Certificate Level/diploma in health science — General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy — containing Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with NEB's certificate of equivalence to Grade 12 Science, 50% in both the diploma and the equivalence examination, and registration with the Nepal Health Professional, Pharmacy or Ayurveda Council. Papers II and III accept some diplomas without the equivalence; the syllabus lists them.
  • Nurses with a PCL diploma usually take the BNS route instead (below), which has its own paper.

BSc Nursing seats and competition

2,430 BSc Nursing seats and 30 BSc Midwifery seats in 2025/26, and 15,656 candidates sat the nursing paper in the last round — about 6 for every seat. Both figures are CollegeInfoNepal's, which gives the candidates "as per our sources".

How many marks for BSc Nursing

MEC's category-wise result for MECEE-BL 2025: the pass mark was 39.75 and about 5,533 qualified. The score at each rank, worked out from the same list:

  • A top-500 rank took about 95.75, and the top 1,000 about 80.75.
  • Seats are matched by rank and by category; the CEE cut-off marks guide explains how, with MBBS, BDS and pharmacy beside it.

BSc Nursing or BNS

BNS (Bachelor in Nursing Science) and BMS (Midwifery Science) are for nurses who already hold a PCL diploma and are registered with the Nepal Nursing Council. Their paper is different: Nursing core subjects 150, Basic health sciences applied to nursing 30, Mental Agility Test 20. In MECEE-BL 2025 its pass mark was 95, and there are 1,062 BNS seats in 2025/26.

How to prepare for the nursing entrance

  1. 1Go through every unit once from your Grade 11 and 12 textbooks, heaviest first: human physiology, physical and organic chemistry, modern physics, mechanics.
  2. 2Sit full papers in 3 hours. The free CEE mock test is the same paper, marked at −0.25, and tells you which units lost the marks.
  3. 3Practise the 20 Mental Agility questions a little every day — they need no textbook. Worked examples: CEE MAT questions.
