Broker commission rates

One rate applies to the whole trade value, set by the size of the trade:

  • Up to Rs 50,000 — 0.36% (at least Rs 10)
  • Rs 50,001 to 5 lakh — 0.33%
  • Rs 5 lakh to 20 lakh — 0.31%
  • Rs 20 lakh to 1 crore — 0.27%
  • Above Rs 1 crore — 0.24%

Other charges and capital gains tax

  • SEBON fee: 0.015% of the trade value, on buying and selling.
  • DP charge: Rs 25 per company per settlement, on buying and selling.
  • Capital gains tax for individuals, from FY 2083/84: 7.5% if held more than 365 days, 10% if 365 days or less (up from 5% and 7.5%). It is now a final tax, withheld when you sell.
  • The gain is the sale proceeds after charges, minus what the shares cost you including the buying charges — which is what MeroShare's WACC records.

Worked example

100 shares bought at Rs 1,000: Rs 1,00,000 + 330 commission + 15 SEBON + 25 DP = Rs 1,00,370. Sold at Rs 1,200 after more than a year: Rs 1,20,000 − 396 − 18 − 25 = Rs 1,19,561; gain Rs 19,191; tax 7.5% = Rs 1,439.33; you receive Rs 1,18,121.68, a profit of Rs 17,751.68. Break-even was Rs 1,007.43 a share.

Rates and tax were checked on 3 October 2026. Institutional investors pay different capital gains tax; your broker's contract note is the final word.
