A participation certificate says a named person was at a named thing on a named date. Schools issue them after every programme, training centres after every workshop, clubs after every competition — usually a hundred at a time, the evening before, on whatever template someone still has. Most of them are worthless within a year, and for one reason: they do not say what the event actually was.
Who asks for one, and what they are checking
Schools and colleges collect them for the student's own file, and for the extracurricular section of a +2 or bachelor's application. A certificate saying “Workshop” with no subject tells an admissions reader nothing; “Three-day Workshop on Basic Robotics, organised by the Science Club” tells them the student spent three days on robotics.
Scholarship committees weigh these as evidence of initiative outside the classroom. What they read is the specificity: the event, the organiser, the duration.
Employers hiring freshers use them the way they use projects — proof that a candidate with no job history has been doing something. For that, the topic has to be legible to someone who was not there.
Professional bodies in some fields count training hours. A certificate with no date and no duration cannot be counted even by someone willing to count it.
What it must contain — and the one line most of them get wrong
The participant's full name, spelled as on their official documents. In a bulk print this is where the errors are, because the list was typed from a sign-in sheet.
The event, named specifically. This is the line that decides whether the certificate is worth keeping. “Seminar” is not an event; “National Seminar on Climate Adaptation in the Mid-Hills” is. Include the edition or year if there is one.
The date, or the range — and if it ran over days, say so. “15–17 Bhadra 2083” carries information that “Bhadra 2083” does not.
The organiser's name, and the venue if it is a place anyone would recognise. A certificate issued by an organisation nobody can identify is an unverifiable one.
Duration in hours where the event was training-shaped. Anyone counting professional development hours needs the number, and it costs one line.
The authorised signature with a printed name and role — programme coordinator, principal, club president — and the organisation's stamp.
Issuing a hundred of them without a hundred mistakes
The practical problem with participation certificates is never the design; it is that there are two hundred names and the event finished yesterday. Retyping the template per person is how a name gets misspelled, a date gets left on the previous event, and two people get the same certificate.
Paste the list once and print the set. Everything that is the same for everyone — the event name, the date, the signature, the letterhead — is typed once and cannot drift between copies, and the only thing that varies per certificate is the one field that should.
Check the names against the registration list, not the attendance sheet. Sign-in handwriting is where “Shrestha” becomes “Shrest”, and a certificate with a misspelled name is one the holder cannot use.

Common questions
Is a participation certificate worth anything on a CV?
For a fresher, yes — it is evidence of what you have been doing when there is no work history to show. For someone with five years of experience it is filler. Either way its value comes from the specifics: the topic, the organiser and the duration are what a reader can do anything with.
Can I print certificates for a whole list of people at once?

Should it be landscape or portrait?
Landscape is the convention for a display certificate — the kind that gets framed or pinned up. Letters like experience and salary certificates are portrait, on letterhead. The templates here follow that split.
Does it need a stamp?
It should have one. A display certificate with a signature and no stamp is easy to dismiss, and the stamp costs nothing to apply at the point of issue and is impossible to add credibly later.
Can I write it in Nepali?
Yes, and for a school or ward-level programme it is often the better choice. Type Nepali into any field and it renders correctly. For anything that might be read abroad, English saves a translation.
