An offer letter tells a selected candidate, in writing, what job they are being offered and on what terms, and asks them to accept by a certain date. It protects both sides: the candidate has the salary and start date on paper before resigning from another job, and the employer has a clear date after which the offer no longer stands.

What to put in a job offer letter
The position. Title, department, place of work, working days and hours, and the proposed joining date.
The salary structure. Basic salary, allowances and the monthly total, with other benefits such as Social Security Fund contribution, festival allowance and insurance listed.
Probation. Up to six months under the Labour Act 2074.
Conditions. That the offer depends on document verification and references, and which originals to bring on the first day.
The acceptance date. The date by which a signed copy must be returned. Without it an offer stays open indefinitely.
If you have received an offer letter
Check that the salary is stated as basic and allowances separately, that the joining date leaves room for your notice period, and that the letter is on letterhead and signed by someone with authority.
For jobs abroad, an offer letter alone is not permission to work. The labour permit guide explains what Nepal requires, and a genuine employer never asks you to pay for the offer.
Before you resign from your current job on the strength of an offer, get it accepted in writing; the resignation letter format has the wording.

Common questions
What is the difference between an offer letter and an appointment letter?
An offer letter proposes the job and can be declined or lapse. An appointment letter is issued after the offer is accepted and formally confirms the employment and its terms.
What is the format of a job offer letter?
Letterhead, date and reference, the candidate's name, a subject line, the position and joining date, the salary structure, the conditions of the offer, the date to accept by, and signature lines for the employer and the candidate.
Is an offer letter legally binding in Nepal?
Once the candidate accepts it in writing, the offer and acceptance form an agreement on the terms stated. That is why the salary, start date and conditions should be exact.
Can I download the offer letter in Word format?
Yes, as an editable Word file or a print-ready PDF. A filled-in sample in both formats is on this page.
Should an offer letter mention the salary?
Yes. State the basic salary, allowances and total per month. A candidate should not be asked to resign from another job on a verbal figure.
Is my information sent anywhere?
No. Everything stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account unless you make one to sync your work across devices.
