Nepali date converter: BS to AD and AD to BS

To convert a Nepali date (BS) to an English date (AD), enter the BS year, month and day and read the AD date beside it; to go the other way, pick the AD date. A BS date is about 56 years and 8 months ahead of the AD date, and the Nepali year starts in mid-April.

Today's date in BS and AD appears here.

Tuesday, 14 April 2026

1 Baisakh 2083 BS = 2026-04-14 AD

मङ्गलबार · १ बैशाख २०८३

Nepal runs on Bikram Sambat. Citizenship certificates, school certificates, government forms and contracts carry BS dates, while passports, foreign applications and phones use AD. This converter goes both ways, shows today's date in both calendars, and works out an exact age from a date of birth — the three things people convert most.

How the Nepali calendar (BS) relates to AD

Bikram Sambat runs about 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian calendar. The Nepali new year, 1 Baisakh, falls in mid-April, so a BS year spans two AD years: BS 2083 runs from April 2026 to April 2027.

BS months are not fixed lengths. Each has 29 to 32 days, and the lengths change from year to year according to the published calendar, which is why a BS date cannot be converted by adding a fixed number — it needs the year's table, which this converter uses.

From BS 2084, month lengths are still projections: the official calendar is published only a few years ahead. The converter marks those dates as provisional rather than presenting them as certain.

The Nepali months, in order

  • 1 बैशाख — Baisakh (mid-April to mid-May)
  • 2 जेठ — Jestha
  • 3 असार — Ashar
  • 4 साउन — Shrawan
  • 5 भदौ — Bhadra
  • 6 असोज — Ashoj
  • 7 कार्तिक — Kartik
  • 8 मंसिर — Mangsir
  • 9 पुष — Poush
  • 10 माघ — Magh
  • 11 फाल्गुन — Falgun
  • 12 चैत — Chaitra (mid-March to mid-April)

Date of birth: converting BS to AD for forms

Your citizenship certificate gives your date of birth in BS; your passport gives it in AD. Every visa, foreign university and many online forms want the AD date — and it must match the passport exactly, so convert it once, carefully, and use the same AD date everywhere.

A CV for a job in Nepal can show the BS date; for abroad, use AD, or both. The बायोडाटा format shows the date of birth with BS or AD as you choose, and the CV maker takes either.

Age calculator in BS or AD

Enter a date of birth in BS or AD and the converter gives the age today — in years, months and days, and in total days — or the age on any other date, such as the closing date of a vacancy that sets an age limit.

Lok Sewa and many other vacancies set an age limit counted on a specific date, often the last day to apply. Check your age on that date, not today. See the current Lok Sewa vacancies for their closing dates.

Common questions

How do I convert a Nepali date to an English date?

Enter the BS year, month and day in the converter and read the AD date shown beside it. BS is about 56 years and 8 months ahead of AD, but month lengths vary, so a converter that uses the published calendar is the reliable way.

How do I convert my date of birth from BS to AD?

Enter the BS date from your citizenship certificate in the BS to AD converter. Use the AD result on passports, visas and foreign applications, and keep it identical everywhere.

What is today's Nepali date?

The converter shows today's date in both BS and AD at the top, worked out on your own device from the published calendar.

How many years ahead is BS from AD?

About 56 years and 8 months. Because the Nepali new year is in mid-April, subtract 57 from the BS year for dates from Baisakh to mid-Poush, and 56 for the rest — or use the converter for an exact date.

How do I calculate age from a Nepali date of birth?

Enter the date of birth in BS in the age calculator. It converts the date and gives the exact age in years, months and days, today or on a date you choose.
