GPA calculator for SEE and NEB (Class 10, 11, 12)

Under the NEB grading system, 90% and above is A+ (4.0), 80–90 A (3.6), 70–80 B+ (3.2), 60–70 B (2.8), 50–60 C+ (2.4), 40–50 C (2.0) and 35–40 D (1.6); below 35 is NG (not graded). Your GPA is each subject's grade point weighted by its credit hours, averaged.

B+3.2

Very good

SEE (Class 10) and NEB (Classes 11 and 12) results use letter grades with grade points from 1.6 to 4.0. Enter a percentage to see its grade, or enter each subject's marks and credit hours from your marksheet to work out the GPA the way NEB does — weighted by credit hours.

NEB grading table

Each interval runs from its lower mark up to, but not including, the next one: 89.9% is A, 90% is A+.

  • 90 and above — A+ — 4.0 — Outstanding
  • 80 to below 90 — A — 3.6 — Excellent
  • 70 to below 80 — B+ — 3.2 — Very good
  • 60 to below 70 — B — 2.8 — Good
  • 50 to below 60 — C+ — 2.4 — Satisfactory
  • 40 to below 50 — C — 2.0 — Acceptable
  • 35 to below 40 — D — 1.6 — Basic
  • Below 35 — NG — Not graded

How the GPA is calculated

Each subject's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, the products are added, and the sum is divided by the total credit hours: GPA = Σ(credit × grade point) ÷ Σ credit. A 4-credit A+ (4.0), a 4-credit B (2.8) and a 2-credit C (2.0) give (16 + 11.2 + 4) ÷ 10 = 3.12.

Theory and practical (internal) marks are graded separately on the marksheet, and a subject needs at least 35% in the theory exam to be graded. If any subject is NG, no overall GPA is given until it is cleared in the grade-increment (supplementary) exam.

GPA to percentage

There is no official formula for turning a GPA back into a percentage — the grade point stands for a band, not a mark. A GPA of 3.6 means "in the A band, 80–90%", nothing more exact. Where a university or embassy asks for a percentage, give the GPA with the grading table, or ask the school for a marks-based transcript.

Common questions

What GPA is 80 percent?

80% is grade A, grade point 3.6. 79.9% is B+ (3.2).

What is NG in the NEB result?

Not Graded: below 35% in a subject (or in its theory exam). The subject must be cleared in the grade-increment exam before a GPA is given.

How do I convert GPA to percentage in Nepal?

There's no official conversion. A GPA stands for a band — 3.6 is the 80–90% A band — so quote the GPA with the grading table rather than a calculated percentage.

Is the SEE grading the same as NEB?

Yes — SEE uses the same letter grades and grade points (A+ 4.0 down to D 1.6, below 35 NG) as Classes 11 and 12.
